I made a video recently all about common houseplant problems and how to fix them... In retrospect I really wish I'd uploaded each issue as a separate video, so I'm breaking it up now so that you don't have to sit through the whole thing if you don't want to!

I'm really sorry for the lighting in this video - my light broke just before I filmed (I couldn't get it working) and this was the only time I had 😂

PART 1 🌱
This first breakdown is all about brown leaf tips in houseplants. Why browning leaf tips and edges occur, and how you can go about treating this in order to make sure your plants stay happy and healthy.

ADVICE ON HOW TO TREAT ROOT ROT:
Carefully take your plant out of its pot and remove as much of the soil as you can from around its roots. I sometimes rinse the roots under the tap/hosepipe in order to get rid of as much soil as possible.
If the root rot has impacted your plant's leaves, give them a little trim back, so that the treated root system won't have to work so hard to support and feed the plant - giving it a much better chance at healthy growth once it's back to its normal, healthy self. I know it's not nice to have to do this, but it gives it a much better chance.
Take a look at the roots that have been effected most and prune them back to the point where they start to look healthier (chop away any dead brown areas). Make sure you use a clean pair of scissors or blade to do this so that it remains as sterile as possible, and dispose of the old soil.
Make sure you thoroughly clean and disinfect the pot it was in, and use new soil to carefully pot it back in (I have a guide to repotting blog on my website if you've got any queries in regards to this). I've linked the soil mixes that I like to use in this video.
Once it's repotted, give it a good water, and make sure you regulate this carefully over the coming weeks as your plant adjusts. Avoid using fertiliser for at least a few months whilst it adapts (you don't want to send your plant into shock, plus there's plenty of natural nutrients for it to enjoy in the new soil).
To help prevent this issue again in the future, besides careful and monitored watering, I always keep a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide in the house and treat my plants with a diluted measure if I suspect they may have root rot. Hydrogen Peroxide adds oxygen to the soil and is really effective, not just at treating root rot, but allowing your plant to absorb nutrients from the soil.
