As the year comes to a close, I wanted to share a few quiet moments that shaped the end of ours — sun-soaked days in Belize at the beginning of December, followed by cozy Christmas memories at home in Idaho. Different places, different energies, all part of the same season of reflection and gratitude.

As someone who studies magic and theology, I often feel called to remind people that witchcraft itself is not a religion — it is a craft. It’s a way of working with intention, energy, nature, and self. Because of that, many witches celebrate religious holidays alongside their magical practices, weaving together tradition, family, culture, and personal meaning in ways that feel authentic to them.

There is no one “right” way to practice. No one should feel shame, discomfort, or pressure around celebrating the holidays that are traditional for them — or the ones they feel deeply connected to, whether that’s Christmas, Yule, both, or something entirely different. Magic lives in intention, not exclusion.

As we step into the New Year, my hope is that we all give ourselves permission to honor what feels true, comforting, and meaningful — wherever that may come from.
