Jordan Bernt Peterson is a Canadian psychologist, author, and commentator on the news. He was born on June 12, 1962. In the late 2010s, his views on cultural and political issues began to get a lot of attention.

Peterson was born and raised in Alberta. He has bachelor's degrees in political science and psychology from the University of Alberta and a PhD in clinical psychology from McGill University. After doing research and teaching at Harvard, he moved back to Canada in 1998 and became a psychology professor at the University of Toronto. In 1999, he wrote his first book, called Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief. Many of the lectures he gave after that were based on this book. The book looks at systems of belief and meaning by combining psychology, mythology, religion, literature, philosophy, and neuroscience.

Peterson's lectures and conversations quickly reached millions of people, mostly through YouTube and podcasts. In 2018, he stopped seeing patients and teaching to write his second book, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos. With a world tour to promote it, it became a best-seller in many places. In 2021, he published his third book, Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life, quit his job at the University of Toronto, and went back to podcasting. In 2022, Peterson made a deal with The Daily Wire, a conservative media company, to share his work.
