6 year diagnosi-versary, + 6 of the most important lessons I’ve learned in 6 years ✨

1. The friends who show up when you are sick are the only ones worth keeping

This has been the most important thing for me, pouring into relationships that have poured into me. I have less energy as someone with a chronic illness, so the energy I have needs to be allocated appropriately. I don’t spend time on relationships that don’t serve me, sorry not sorry.

2. Just because a doctor is called a specialist, doesn’t mean they know everything about your disease

This was a medical gaslighting, traumatic and horrific lesson to learn. Anyone can call themselves a specialist but it doesn’t mean they know what they’re doing.

3. Seeing an allergist will be the best thing you do

See: skin issues. I wish I had skipped dermatology and went to an allergist with my issues, I would have saved myself a lot less hospital and urgent care visits and a lot less stress.

4. Diagnosis can either give you purpose or cripple you, you get to choose

This platform and the things I do here is a testament to this. You get to choose how a diagnosis defines and affects you.

5. Clinical trials should not be a last resort, they are a form of fighting back for yourself and others

Clinical trial has been the best part of my journey to be honest, it’s given me, and hundreds of thousands of patients like me a fighting chance. It’s changed my life.

6. Self-care looks like self-advocacy, you have to remember to speak up for yourself

If you know me, you know this as my motto. Speak up, take up space, and don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself when you feel like you’re being treated poorly.
