"Lal Shaak" which literally translates to "Red Vegetable" is an extremely popular Bengali starter. As a child we remember being fascinated by the rich red color the rice would turn into when mixed with lal shaak. With just a handful of ingredients in the correct proportion this simple leafy vegetable can turn into an extremely flavorful dish. The ingredients are as follows:-

** Very important to wash Lal Shaak properly, rinse thoroughly in water, cut the roots, remove the pale leaves.

List:

1. Lal Shaak / Red Spinach - 300g
2. Garlic - 8 cloves
3. Green Chilli - 4 pcs.
4. Mustard Oil - 25 ml.
5. Shukno Lonka / Dried Red Chilli - 2 pcs.
6. Kalo Jeera / Nigella Seeds - ½ tsp
7. Raw peanuts - handful
8. Salt - ½ tsp
