Fermi Problem, All People on Earth Standing in One Location

Описание к видео Fermi Problem, All People on Earth Standing in One Location

"Fermi Problems" ask the student to estimate the answer to some question. This Fermi Problem asks for the % of the area of the land area of Earth needed for everyone on Earth to stand side-by-side. Often, the correct answer to a Fermi Problem is not known. A general principle is that you should break the problem into many factors and make educated guesses for each factor. Some factors will be too large and others too small, but the answer should be reasonably close to an acceptable number. I did not show this in the video but the area required for 7.4 billion people is a square about 20 miles on each side. Prof. Greg Clements
