IWB Monthly Meeting - September 2024 - Building Mentor/Mentee Relationships

As we start a new academic year, many of us are entering new mentor/mentee relationships. Through the Utah Coaching and Advancement Network (U-CAN), at the University of Utah, Dr. Harriet Hopf and Dr. Kristen Keefe presented resources on building mentor/mentee relationships and the fundamentals of professional mentoring. In this meeting, we learned about the types of mentor mentee relationships, how to initiate and maintain these relationships, and how to handle transitions in these relationships.

Dr. Hopf and Dr. Keefe covered strategies for developing long-term relationships that go beyond a specific project to support mentees during their early academic careers, as well as identified common pitfalls that may hinder effectiveness within a mentoring relationship.
