The legendary boy band Energy has released a new song written for them by the hip hop trio Nine One One. With its modern EDM style, this is a collaboration for the books, featuring two of Taiwan’s biggest boy bands. In just five days, the music video reached over 1 million views. Let’s look at some behind-the-scenes exclusives!

The boy band Energy poses as office workers in their latest music video, which captures the melancholy of office work. The song, “Mr. Chill,” was written for them by the hip hop trio Nine One One, marking a historical collaboration between two of Taiwan’s biggest boy bands.

Nine One One members Daniel, Chien-chih, and Hawyeu hold a special compass, guiding Energy through the song. To hype up the collaboration, behind-the-scenes footage was released ahead of time.

The whole set bursts into laughter as Energy references Nine One One’s hit song “Local” along with its signature dance move, a deep squat. Energy member Kunda then shared how the two groups met.

I met Chien-chih on a talent show and mentioned that I liked Nine One One’s music. I asked him to write a song for us right there at the show.

We hit it off immediately and did this project together.

Chien-chih said that although they composed the song quite quickly, choosing the theme took a while. Inspired by Energy’s upbeat image, he decided the song could help people escape the monotony of daily life. Nine One One said they are not very good dancers, which is why they wear sunglasses in the music video. Thankfully, Energy stepped in to help them with their dancing, showing just how well these two groups complement each other.
