In this video we do a group ride with the Brisbane Recumbents. We had a good turn out with 19 people in attendance. It was great to see so many people out together. In Australia recumbents are not so common as other parts of the world. We started our journey from the Boondall railway station car park and rode on the bicentennial bikeway and Deagon deviation until we reached the top end of Brighton, near the two bridges. The weather had looked dark and cloudy and we all hoped to stay dry. As they had predicted high wind gusts we took the front section of our canopies off. I persuaded my friend Rick to do the same. When we came on to the Brighton foreshore we were met with wind gusts over 30 km. Our flagpoles were bending to the point I thought they might snap, so I added an extra cable tie to secure to the canopy support. I hopped off my trike to film the other riders and the wind blew my trike back on to the path! We then headed out of the wind to the local bakery for some tasty morsels and took a group photo. We missed out on a couple of riders who left early to catch a train home. After the bakery we headed back down to the waterfront, staying on the road instead of the bikeway next to the water. At the top end the wind had been blowing sand in our faces. Near the end we went back on the pathway beside the water. I ended our filming there as I was low on batteries. We then returned back to Boondall safe and sound. The is the second ride we have done where the weather at Sandgate has been a bit knarly. Hopefully the sun will shine very brightly the next time. However it was so good to see new faces and old and get together doing something we all love - riding our trikes.
