Extracts & Visualize Basin Specific Surface Water information | JRC Global Surface Water data in GEE

Welcome to our latest tutorial on analyzing basin-specific surface water insights using the JRC Global Surface Water and HydroSHEDS dataset in Google Earth Engine! In this tutorial, we walk you through the process of extracting, processing, and visualizing surface water information for a specific basin.

• Selecting the Basin: We start by filtering the basin feature collection to choose a specific basin using its unique identifier.
• Loading Dataset: We load the JRC Global Surface Water dataset, which provides comprehensive information about surface water occurrence on a global scale.
• Water Extraction and Clipping: We extract the geometry of the selected basin and clip the water occurrence data to its extent.
• Visualization: We define visualization parameters to display water occurrence, enhancing understanding with a color palette from white (no water) to blue (water).
• Data Processing: We perform necessary data processing steps, including unmasking to replace masked pixels and morphological closing to fill holes in water bodies, enhancing accuracy.
• Vectorization of Water Bodies: We convert the processed water occurrence image into vector polygons representing water bodies within the basin boundaries.
