Today we're investigating the scriptural evidence for a flat earth worldview. I'll be sharing my perspective and historical context for why I don't believe the Bible or historical church support Flat Earth conspiracies.

Hoiiiii frens. So I'm a little disappointed in myself for not framing this whole argument very well. I think the specifics of this video are on point (except for when I called Pliny an emporer??? Literally where did that even come from what an egg) so I'm happy with the arguments made in this video themselves. However! My focus on the metaphorical and poetic without addressing wider context enough has, as a few folks have pointed out, left me sounding like an apologist. I think what I've basically done is assert my position in a wrong and dumb way. I think it's because my focus was on the specific talking points of FE, which I do consider a butchering of metaphor/visions (Daniel, Matthew and Luke re: the Devil's temptation). But really, it's not that the bible doesn't say the earth is flat at all, rather that many of the parts Flat Earther's interpret as evidence, I disagree with, based on real scholars investigations and material evidence from the time (for example, something that sounds to a flat earther like potential evidence is more likely to be metaphor when we know that the globe earth was common knowledge at the time of writing). As I mentioned regarding Genesis, the parts of the bible that suggest a flat earth/young earth etc need to be placed in historical context as simply a reflection of the cosmological model at the time. I could have done a much better job if I'd not been so tunnel-vision focused on the literal interpretations that I disagree with. Which is shamefully ironic given I'm trying to argue for a better in context reading of the bible ;~;
