ONE OF STARGATE's more memorable guest appearances came in Season 4's "Scorched Earth," with the alien AI representing an extinct species searching for their rebirth. Veteran Canadian actor Brian Markinson played Lotan, the artificial being created by their automated ship – which had traveled the galaxy in search of a suitable planet to terraform and restart the Gadmeer civilization.

Unfortunately for the Enkarans, who had just settled the same planet, the terraforming spelled the end of their still living, breathing species.

Markinson spoke with "Dial the Gate" about his Stargate experience and the challenges of playing a robotic, yet innocent, character. He talks about Lotan's subtle mannerisms, wardrobe challenges, and the strengths of the episode's script, including the moral dilemma that stood at the center of this story.
