Jambo Kenya - Birds of Central Highlands - Mount Kenya, Kinangop Grasslands & Sagana

Описание к видео Jambo Kenya - Birds of Central Highlands - Mount Kenya, Kinangop Grasslands & Sagana

We spent around 3 days in Central Highlands of Kenya in August 2024. As part of this, we visited Mt Kenya, Sagana, Aberdare and Kinangop. Here I present the wildlife we encountered in Mt Kenya, Sagana and Kinangop Grasslands.
Castle Lodge in Mt Kenya is where we birded and it is a lovely place to stay and watch the variety of bird species that make this place their home. We saw around 65 bird species, of which 51 were lifers.
Kinangop grasslands holds an endemic bird - Sharpe's Longclaw and this bird has a very restricted range in central highlands of Kenya. It is an endangered bird and its habitats are being replaced for farming.
Sagana holds another Kenay endemic bird - Hinde's Pied Babbler, but we were unlucky not to spot this bird, but the resort yielded Malagasy Pond Heron, another endangered bird.
These three places are accessible from Nairobi and a must on your bird watching itinerary. Mt.Kenya needs at least 2 days owing to the dense cover, hence, spotting birds does pose a challenge.
Ben Mugambe from Ben's Ecological Safari has guided us on this trip.
