WLToys 104001 | Bigger Pinion, Bigger Speed (+35%)

Howdy!
I wasn't quite happy with 31mph on the first test of the new brushless system so I figured the easiest place to start would be the gearing.
I purchased a kit with a range of sizes from Amazon and installed the largest pinion that would fit. In this case a 26T was the largest I could squeeze in there without any modification.

I think the big jump in speed comes from lubing the bearings and resolving a binding issue with the mesh.

The video covers the install and there's a couple of passes at the end with a speed test.
The previous test after the brushless was 31mph.
This current test shows 42mph. 11mph increase just from the pinion!
