Zero Tool – The Bloody-Nine (Joe Abercrombie’s The First Law)
⚔️ A dark medieval ballad inspired by Joe Abercrombie’s First Law trilogy.
This song tells the tale of Logen Ninefingers — the Bloody-Nine. A man, a legend, a monster.
Some call him friend, others call him foe, but all whisper of the beast that awakens when the red haze falls.
❄️ From the frozen North to the walls of the Union, his story is written in scars and graves.
He is a survivor, a killer, and a man cursed by the name that will outlive him.
This song is not about glory.
It’s about blood, fear, and the silence that follows violence.
It’s about the man who knows better than anyone that “You have to be realistic about these things.”
[Verse 1]
They say he came from the frozen land,
With the frost in his eyes and steel in his hand.
He’s fought in the mud, he’s fought in the snow,
Left a trail of the dead everywhere he’d go.
They call him friend, they call him foe,
Some swear he’s a man, some swear they know —
That the beast in his heart wears a man’s own skin,
And when the blood runs hot, the beast walks in.
[Chorus]
Bloody-Nine, in the cold moonlight,
You’ll never win, but you’ll never fight right.
Every hand you shake, every vow you swear,
Is just another grave you’ll dig somewhere.
[Verse 2]
From the North’s black pines to the Union’s wall,
He’s heard the raven’s endless call.
He’s bled for gold, he’s bled for none,
He’s watched the rise and the fall of the sun.
And when the red haze clouds his sight,
There’s no king or cause that can set things right.
Just broken bones and the cries of men,
And the quiet after, once again.
[Chorus]
Bloody-Nine, in the cold moonlight,
You’ll never win, but you’ll never fight right.
Every hand you shake, every vow you swear,
Is just another grave you’ll dig somewhere.
[Bridge]
So keep your distance, don’t meet his eyes,
You might not see the man inside.
And if you do, don’t say his name —
It’s the beast you’ll wake, and it knows no shame.
[Chorus – Final]
Bloody-Nine, in the cold moonlight,
You’ll never win, but you’ll never fight right.
Every hand you shake, every vow you swear,
Is just another grave you’ll dig somewhere.
