Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, 32, and One Direction pin-up Liam Payne, 22, are reportedly dating. The unlikely couple’s relationship is thought to have begun back in December after Cheryl split from husband of 19 months Jean-Bernard. Liam, 22, is said to have told his friends he’s already “madly in love” with the brunette stunner who is 10 years his senior. “Cheryl and Liam are in a relationship. It was unexpected but they’ve both made each other incredibly happy," a friend of the 1D star told The Sun.
The One Direction heartthrob, who first met Cheryl on The X Factor when he auditioned for the show when he was just 14, also got a tattoo on his hand of roses last month - a similar design to the singer's intricate back and bum tattoo. The pair then met again when Liam returned to audition for the ITV talent show when he was 17. In recent years they are said to have formed a friendship after the Geordie beauty signed with the same management as the boy band and also through mutual friend and colleague Simon Cowell.
A friend added to the newspaper: “Cheryl has obviously known Liam for many years. They’ve always got on well because they are both northern and share many of the same interests. “But there was never anything romantic between them in the past." Cheryl begun formal divorce proceedings by filing paperwork which cites irreconcilable differences between her and partner Jean-Bernard in early January, though the pair are believed to have secretly split up in August. When she attended the Brit Awards earlier this week, it was clear the I Don't Care star appeared to be in much better spirits after a difficult few months.
Wearing a yellow caged mini-dress, the 32-year-old looked happy and relaxed as she flashed a mega-watt smile on the red carpet at the O2 Arena.
Liam and his girlfriend of two years, Sophia Smith, split up last October, with his globe-trotting career being blamed for their break-up.
