See all the equipment we put on the airplane, and inquire about your own project! https://newviewtech.com/aoa/ Our flying day is only half way done -- we're in the process of flying from Alaska, through Canada, and to Oshkosh Wisconsin. The goal is to get our Cessna 172 upgraded with modern day avionics, so our airplane can be IFR. We've got some awesome avionics upgrades in sore from Garmin and more, but first we have to make this epic aviation journey.

This leg is all about entering into Canada, traversing into a remote area where few humans are around, and clearing customs in Whitehorse. That's not as easy as it sounds. To cross a border with general aviation you've got to go through a lot of paperwork. And with the pandemic, it's making it even more difficult.

[SPOILERS AHEAD]
We start this video preparing at 40 Mile Air in Tok, Alaska. We get all the paperwork filed, talk to CanPass, and fill out our ArriveCan app. Then, we're finally cleared to go ahead and fly toward Whitehorse. We can't land the plane anywhere else but Whitehorse for the next 3 hours, unless there's an aviation emergency.

We takeoff the plan from Tok, and fly our way through a Winter Wonderland. This is the last time our Cessna 172 will be in Alaska for a few months. The scenery is beautiful, and we're excited that we're finally flying this part of the cross country flight.

Before we cross the border, we need to get rid of our contraband potato. David the Potato, a gift from and in the likeness of Daniel's brother, goes on his merry way out the window. Tears were shed, there was some wailing, but we will survive.

And finally, we make the crossing flying into Canada! To be honest, it's anticlimactic. You can't see any noticeable change. But it IS beautiful and this is certainly a flight we're enjoying.

This area is also quite difficult because there just aren't a lot of airports or weather reporting points. There also isn't any radar coverage or help along the way. You're kinda on your own for everything, taking a step back into the past.

We're wanting to get to Whitehorse by nightfall. After experiencing some turbulence, and navigating our way along the ALCAN highway, we finally pick up the Whitehorse weather and check in with ATC. They clear us for approach on 14R.

We touch down basically right at sunset and we have to taxi the airplane straight to customs. There we wait for the border agents, and we have to stay in the plane. Soon they come and the process only takes several minutes because we did our paperwork correctly.

And we're here! Approved! Cleared into Canada!

We tuck the airplane in a warm hangar for the night, meet some new friends, and get some rest for the next day.

Again, the whole goal is to end up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Then, there's a the whole panel upgrade. It's gonna be AWESOME! We will bring this airplane into the 21st century with avionics from Garmin, PS Engineering and in partnership with NewView Technologies. The panel upgrade process is incredibly interesting. As pilots, I can say we have no idea how complex things are behind the scenes. These avionics are amazing!

So, come follow along! It's going to be an awesome series to follow, upgrading this Cessna 172.
