You guys did a great job coming out and informing me about your situations. Like seriously guys I was not aware of what many of you were facing. We had students from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Mauritius, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Venezuela and many more.

It was great to see how vocal you guys are about this Exams situation and how much this really matters to you.


Overall it appears the vast majority of you want exams cancelled just like what is taking place here in the UK and having learnt that some of you haven’t been back in school since March of 2020 and having learnt that I’m actually very surprised that the governments where you are have not stepped in and made that call – like I know all of you are pointing at Cambridge but they seem to be pointing right back at your governments. So if you guys really want exams to be cancelled then you need to speak up to your schools and then get in touch with your governments to express what you want to take place.


Personally; I think that in order to achieve the fairest there could be 3 solutions offered here:



1. The exams are postponed to a later date: The reason I suggest this is because Teacher Assessed grades are not the most consistent as last year’s results found and in that case exams still are the most fairest way to get a fair outcome thereby exams should be delayed further due to the disruptions faced globally and the opportunity given to catch up.



2. The alternative would be to have exams as optional. Logistically this will present many issues of its own and let me tell you as an examiner not only will this be difficult to facilitate but also there level equality will be very difficult to justify since you’ll be having students going through teacher grades and then their peers going through exams.


So as you will see in the updated conversation that I had with Cambridge International again – you will have noticed that the latest update is that EXAMS are still going ahead INTERNATIONALLY and not taking place in the UK and Mexico – as Cambridge has made it very apparent that the governments have made it extremely difficult for the exams to take place here.


Anyway having said that the consortium of British International Schools overseas have stepped in and written a letter to Gavin Williamson to express what students within their areas had to say: for example in the middle east 91% of the responding schools wanted centre assessed grades with 53% not wanting exams to go ahead. In Asia 52% of the responding schools felt confident in the international exams taking place. COBIS found that 64% of the schools should follow the same arrangements as outlined by OFQUAL.
