When I visited my mom recently, she broke down and apologized for my childhood.

She said she felt guilty for working so much, for not taking us on vacations, and for not giving us the childhood she thought we deserved.

She’s 79 now.

In that moment, I realized how heavy those feelings still were for her decades later.

Not from a place of blame, but from understanding.

We didn’t have money back then.
They did what they had to do to survive.

And like many families, time passed before anyone stopped to reflect.
