Gravis Ultrasound Max - 1 hour of SBOS 3.82 soundblaster/adlib emulation music by the GUS!

Описание к видео Gravis Ultrasound Max - 1 hour of SBOS 3.82 soundblaster/adlib emulation music by the GUS!

I waited years for someone to record GUS SBOS music but no one ever did, so I had to take matters into my own hands!

The Gravis (GUS) cards used a software/tsr emulator called SBOS (sound board operating system) to deal with adlib/soundblaster sound and music. This emulation was imperfect and is often derided as awful and not worth bothering with. SBOS also involved the GUS mapping its samples to the adlib music kind of like using soundfonts with midis, sometimes with mixed results.... BUT, what seems to have been slightly lost in time is the fact that different versions of SBOS sounded very differently from each other! Most people are exposed to SBOS for the GUS PNP with the interwave chip, which provides a very different result to SBOS 3.82 for the earlier GF1 chipset GUS cards, which is what I'm using here.

In this case I am running SBOS with a Gravis Ultrasound Max ver 2.1. There's the odd glitch here and there but I think a lot of this stuff sounds pretty decent or at least interesting. This is how the music sounded to those of us who used a GUS exclusively when they were new.
