2025 Hope-Western Prison Education Program Commencement Ceremony

Family, friends, faculty and administrators honored nine members of the first-ever graduating class of the Hope-Western Prison Education Program on June 25, 2025, with a full commencement ceremony at Hope's campus within the Muskegon Correctional Facility. An additional watch party celebration was held at the Jack H. Miller Center for faculty, staff, students and the public to celebrate the momentous occasion.

The commencement ceremony included all of the traditional pomp and circumstance, including a processional and inspirational remarks by Hope College President Matt Scogin, Western Theological Seminary President Felix Theonugraha, Class of 2025 graduate Anthony Robinson, and Hope College Professor Dr. Fred Johnson. The HWPEP Student Choir led the singing of a song of blessing over the graduates and the Hope College Alma Mater.

Eleven graduates of HWPEP's inaugural class have graduated from Hope College in 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in faith, leadership and service, a course of study that combines religion, ministry, leadership and social sciences.
