AMERICAN TRIDENT II vs RUSSIAN BULAVA SLBM

Ballistic missile submarines carrying Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) are the most important part of a nuclear triad since they can roam in the depths of vast ocean undetected.

Hence, they can’t be taken out by ‘first strike’ and can retaliate against enemy with SLBMs.

The importance of SLBM can be gauged by the fact that the 14 Ohio class submarines together carry approximately 50% of the total U.S active inventory of strategic thermonuclear warheads.

SLBM technology is hard to engineer and hence very few nations have deployed them operationally.
