"One of the nurses (in the Renown NICU) said 'Naomi's the kind of story they dream about and that's why they do what they do'," says Angela Bakker, mother of baby girl, Naomi, who was born weighing 13 ounces.
Naomi Bakker spent 142 days in the Renown Health Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Specialists at Renown Children's Hospital help keep care close to home for Renown’s youngest patients thanks to the generous support of the Pennington Foundation.
We met up with Naomi again during her one-year family photo shoot with Lemaire Photography, where her parents worked hard to get her to smile at the camera.
Angela Bakker says, "We are out here with our photographer who's just like part of the family, since they came to us in the NICU and took photos for us for free of our little baby. To be out here today - outside enjoying the beautiful day and seeing her playing is just a dream."
In July, Naomi celebrated her first birthday with her former NICU nurses.
Naomi, who left the NICU on oxygen, only needs it now during trips to Lake Tahoe or other higher elevations. While she is very petite and about the size of an eight-month-old baby, she is doing well.
