As part of Micro Galleries Disrupting Climate Disruption: A Global Day of Creative Action, artist Adam Kuby has created “Sea Level 2080” and has made it an open source concept, so we can awash the world with this visual symbol of the urgency sea level rising due to global warming, a reality for many all over the globe, and as a call to positive change.

We want to take this simple, but powerful installation and place it along coasts and coastal towns everywhere we can, as a global collective calling for change!

There are numerous scientific models being used to estimate sea level rise. In addition there are projections and multiple variables that could dramatically change what happens in the next 60-100 years. The outcome depends on how much fossil fuels we continue to use, and whether we can substantially cut back carbon emissions. The rate of sea level rise also depends on whether the massive ice sheets in Antarctica remain stable or break off, and how quickly other parts of the globe heat up such as Greenland.

DISRUPTING CLIMATE DISRUPTION: A GLOBAL DAY OF CREATIVE ACTION

On the day of the 2019 U.N Climate Action Summit, creatives will mobilise within their communities, and develop, present and document a public, creative response to climate disruption. The works will span across all practices, with a particular focus on the involvement of creatives and communities members from some of the worlds most vulnerable countries to climate change.

These works, their development and public response will be documented and featured online live, be part of a virtual online exhibition, and form the basis of a micro documentary. This project will culminate with a virtual conference involving participating artists and organisations.

MICRO GALLERIES

Micro Galleries is a free, independent global arts initiative that uses art as a vehicle to create positive change. We do this through creative interventions in public spaces, workshops, art tours, symposiums, think tanks, and residencies. We work together with communities who are in some kind of social or creative need, and together create new opportunities, imaginings, and creative possibilities.

My works are collaborations with the built and unbuilt world that foster a sense of connectedness in our increasingly fractured environment. Each site offers the chance to explore how human and non-human ecologies can better coexist, or at least come into closer dialogue.

I’ve studied and worked in the fields of landscape architecture, sculpture, urban forestry, zoo habitat design and landscape restoration.

I grew up in Philadelphia. I live in Portland, Oregon.
