📖 Story Synopsis:
At the company party, Rachel’s classmate from her studies in France, Joel, asked her in French: “If I had come back to the country with you back then, would you have been my wife by now?”
Rachel replied without a blink: “Yes.”
She thought I didn’t understand French.
What she didn’t know was that, in order to visit her in France, I had worked hard to learn French. But every time I suggested going to see her, she rejected me, forbidding me from coming.
I watched them, raised my glass, and fluently wished them well in French: “Then I’ll wish both of you a lifetime of happiness.”
Rachel was shocked: “You speak French?”
I finished my drink and smiled: “I learned it the first year you went abroad. I just never had a chance to use it before, and I won’t need it again in the future.”
Rachel panicked.
