Update: News reports indicate that the lake basin will be restored by October 31, 2025. Presumably authorities will start refilling the lake around that time. The lake is tentatively scheduled to be reopened to the public on May 1, 2026. (https://www.wspa.com/news/timeline-se...)

Join me for a firsthand June 2025 update on Lake Lure, North Carolina—nine months after Hurricane Helene—to see the rebuilding efforts and what remains of this iconic lakeside community.

Our walk will start at the Lakeside Chapel along the shore of Lake Lure, then on to a walk beside the Lake Lure Beach where we get a great view of the Lake Lure Inn. From here we travel to the marina and Morse Park where we finally see some of the work going on to bring Lake Lure back to life. Finally we walk out to the Flowering Bridge.

All during our walk , we'll look at pictures of the lake years before Hurricane Helene's destruction.
