I'm Jill Holloway, and I was part of this remarkable event from the day the Wakashio struck until the professionals took over the cleanup. It was a clear example of leadership, team work and passion such as the world seldom sees.
Mauritius people working together performed a miracle. Professionals working in hazmat suits during the CORONA Virus pandemic, to o save a small area of coral in the extreme South of the Island that was also a World Heritage site. .
Its a story of incredible unity and national co-operation, and it was a huge success. There is a lot about this that was never written because of the tight security and the NDAs. There was a Police case against the ships captain and crew, the cleanup crews were under Non Disclosure Agreements, and the insurers were heavily invested in resorting a World Heritage REMSAR site. I must be the only one who has never been fettered or controlled. I was lucky to see the entire magnificent story unfold.
