Описание к видео How to tackle period poverty | Mary Bukola Taiwo | TEDxOAU

A powerful wake-up call on sexual health problems affecting women and girls in Africa. Bringing our attention to period poverty and rape, Mary takes us through the experiences of girls in South West Nigeria and Cameroon. She tells us how she is making a change to help them access sanitary materials and how everyone else can do the same.
Mary Taiwo is an award-winning Model United Nations enthusiast who has served as a board member and chairperson of several Model United Nations Conferences both in Nigeria and abroad. Bukola is the first female Secretary General of Ife Model United Nations.
She is a strong advocate for the education of women and girls on sexual reproductive health and right (SRHR) and the inclusion of women and youth in Peace and Security. This led her to found the BUTA initiative, an initiative aimed at educating people about safe menstrual hygiene practices and ending period poverty. In less than two years, she has been able to impact over 3000 women and girls in different communities.
Bukola is currently a pioneer Thematic Lead (Health) at the Queens Commonwealth Trust. Bukola is a recipient of Ekiti Future Award “Prize for Community Action” 2022. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
