Alexanders (Smyrnium olusatrum) are a member of the carrot or Apiaceae family so as with any foraging you must make sure your ID is 100% correct. That said it is a fairly distinctive plant and this video has been made over the course of nine months covering the seasons applicable to it.

The name stays the same whether there is one or many plants, it sort of makes it a mass noun but breaks the rule of being countable, unlike a word such as bread. Getting a bit tied up in detail for sure.

I've made soup and a condiment before but during the making of the former I decided to try candying some in a similar way to Angelica (from the same family) with pretty good results. My comments whilst consuming a sugary piece are genuinely the first taste of the first piece.
