CANOGA PARK

Описание к видео CANOGA PARK

This week's ride is the start of something special. We head into the San Fernando Valley to a neighborhood called Canoga Park. What's notable about this area is that here you can find the confluence of Bell Creek to the north and Arroyo Calabasas to the south to begin the L.A. River - 51 miles flowing through the Valley, to Downtown, and all the way to the port of Long Beach where it empties into the Pacific Ocean. It used to be a proper river, meandering where nature took it, until it flooded so much that in the 1930s they paved the entire basin. There are plans to revitalize it, more info for that in the link below. Then, as if that wasn't enough, I twist and turn like the river to go to the mountains. I haven't been in a while because of all of the road closures due to mud slides from the rain a couple months ago, and it was wonderful being back. We do a couple climbs up Old Topanga and Fernwood to get to the iconic Saddle Peak before going down Las Flores, one of my favorite descents, to take the PCH home. Certainly something special.
