Nishant is an urban designer from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and has been practicing for over a decade on award winning urban projects. On a mission to reclaim lost spaces in the city, his key interests lie in ecological initiatives that reuse urban voids to create public spaces that lead to a more vibrant and healthy city. He has worked on key projects like UPenn Vision 2030, Cambridge North-Point plan adjacent to MIT and Beijing 798 Cultural district plan. SInce 2009, he is the founder of a New Delhi based design practice called NilaA. He is currently working on a World Bank scheme for the urban revitalization of the Ganges Waterfront in Patna through a series of public spaces including parks and art terraces. He is also involved in a comprehensive proposal to create a set of public spaces and parks on the River Yamuna in ITO, New Delhi at a defunct power station. Committed to increasing the public space network in Delhi, his earlier projects in dense urban conditions like Paharganj and Karol Bagh have attempted to revive old chowks and unused spaces. He is an expert panel member at UTTIPEC (DDA) for the Transit Oriented Districts Committee and a member of the Executive Council for the Institute of Urban Designers, India. He has taught at Boston Architecture Center (BAC) and is currently a visiting faculty at dept of Urban Design at SPA, New Delhi. His works have been exhibited in Los Angeles, Boston, New York, Istanbul, Seoul and New Delhi. His research interests lie in envisioning for evolving urban conditions, altering definitions of urban in a highly mobile population flux, art and pop culture in cities, urban food production and the ecological growth of urban areas.
