We’re continuing with our multi-part Bible sermon series this morning, “Debunking Biblical Myths,” presenting part three, entitled, “Apostle Paul’s Snake Bite: A Bonafide Miracle or a Biblical Myth.”

But before we do, I wish to thank all who so graciously prayed for me during my recent downtime with illness; it’s your prayers that have enabled me to get back on my feet, find my strength again, and be with you here this morning preaching God’s holy Word; from the bottom of my heart - thank you, and may God bless you. Recalling our message from last Sunday entitled, “They Shall Take Up Serpents,” this morning we’re going to address yet another biblical myth regarding serpents; that of Apostle Paul having survived a venomous snake bite while shipwrecked on a Maltese island called Malta, along with his disciple, Luke.

However, unlike my argument last Sunday wherein I stated unequivocally and I proved positively that the author of the Gospel of Mark, John Mark, took it upon himself to include the line “...they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them;...“ into Mark 16:18 of his own accord, that such was a complete fabrication on his part; Christ Jesus did not state such words, in today’s message I’m not disputing the validity of Apostle Paul having been struck by a snake while shipwrecked on the Isle of Malta. Rather, my goal is to prove to you that we must not assume that anything contained in the Holy Bible means or stands for something which it doesn’t, that we must not read into or misconstrue scripture, and that oftentimes we must turn to non-secular references, materials, and experts to properly decipher and comprehend the truthfulness and factualness of what we read in holy text.

Paul was in fact struck by a snake while shipwrecked on the Isle of Malta, but the serpent wasn’t venomous, it was non-venomous. Thus, the reason for Paul’s having survived the snake bite in the first place - it wasn’t a miracle.

As I stated last Sunday, please receive this message with an open heart and mind, staying with us to the conclusion, and by doing so, you’ll agree with my assertion that the snake which bit Paul was non-venomous. I preface this message by acknowledging that some of you may find this message a bit boring, as I’m going to delve into herpetology. However, such is necessary for me to substantiate and prove my assertion. Bless you.
