I visited the fading, forgotten town of Pocahontas, Virginia...here's what I saw. The town has a population of just 242 people, and declining each year. Once a thriving coal production area, it was the first coal company owned town in Virginia (1881). Shortly thereafter, railroads were coming through, and things looked promising. However, after the collapse of the coal industry, this town suffered a great loss of businesses, jobs, and hope. Today, it's still trying to recover. With a poverty level of over 20%, it's increasing each year, while population dwindles down due to economic struggles. So many amazing architectures to be found here, its truly sad what it looks like. There are however, some meticulously maintained homes here as well, so not all is lost. Nowadays, Pocahontas relies heavily on the ATV / Outdoors for it's economy, but it's yet to bring it back to where it was. Let's check it out..
