unboxing 3D-printed LEGO®-compatible gears

Unboxing some custom LEGO®-compatible gears 3D-printed with i.materialise:
helical gears revision 2 (http://i.materialise.com/gallery/9022...)
bevel gears with rounded central hole (http://i.materialise.com/gallery/5a39...)

The gears are also available in small sets on Shapeways: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/Shado...

All the gears mesh really smoothly.

I modeled the parts tightly strung together in order to limit 3D-printing cost (prices on i.materialise are based on bounding box volume) so they came with a lot of excess polyamide powder which had to be cleaned. Because of that, the dye did not stick everywhere on the black gears, but this is my fault really for packing the parts so tightly (gears are meshing) and the guys at i.materialise did a great job with cleaning and dying the parts. All in all, only 4 or 5 gears in all 96 had visible white spots where the dye didn't penetrate the plastic.

UPDATE: I made a new revision of the bevel gears. It's available either from my Shapeways profile or on i.materialise: https://i.materialise.com/shop/item/l...
