The Full Can Test for Shoulder Impingement

The function of the rotator cuff is others to perform a caudal glide of the humeral head during elevation with a deficit of your rotator cuff the humeral head will migrate more cranially and can possibly cause shoulder impingement.
To perform the test ask your patient to bring his arms to 90 degrees of forward flexion in the scapular plane which is also referred to as scaption and then apply downward pressure and ask your patient to hold against it. If the empty can test is positive but the full can test is negative this indicates that the impingement problems are not primarily related to a rotator cuff lesion.
