STORYLINE
Hundreds of people gathered in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar on Thursday for a rally organised by radical Islamist political party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI).
The demonstrators called for the resumption of protests against an anti-Islamic film made in the US as well as what they called other acts that insulted Islam.
Many accused the the West of a conspiracy.
"Malala issue is an attempt to take the attention away from anti-Islam film," said Shamsur Rehman Shamsi, JUI leader, referring to Malala Yousufzai, a Pakistani schoolgirl activist who was shot by the Taliban.
Fifteen-year-old Malala is recovering in hospital in the UK after being shot at from close range by the Taliban last month.
She was flown to Britain by an air ambulance provided by the United Arab Emirates on 15 October after escaping death by a hair's breadth when a bullet grazed her brain in the attack on 9 October.
She was targeted by the Taliban after fighting for education for girls in Pakistan.
Malala has been praised around the world for promoting girls' right to education and being an outspoken critic of the militant group.

"We once again start this anti-Islam film movement today and will not stop until and unless they (UN) make some laws against this type of blasphemy," he added.
Tens of thousands of people held violent protests in Muslim countries earlier this year against the film produced in the United States that denigrates Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
