I am preparing a peer-reviewed research paper on the fundamental mechanism by which the mass defect drives energy generation in nuclear reactions. The work proposes a novel interpretation that challenges Einstein’s mass–energy equivalence principle. Rather than being directly converted into energy, the mass defect is argued to undergo an explosive transformation into an ultra-fine form of matter. This matter transfers kinetic energy to reaction products, which collide with surrounding particles and generate heat. Thus, the energy released in nuclear reactions may arise from a state change in matter rather than direct mass-to-energy conversion.
Because mass defects are universal—present in stars, supernovae, neutron-star collisions, and black-hole mergers—I hypothesize that this ultra-fine, space-filling matter permeates the cosmos. If validated, the theory could necessitate major revisions to core concepts of modern physics, including atomic structure, light bending and gravitational lensing, Mercury’s perihelion precession, and other effects now attributed to Special and General Relativity. It may also offer new insights into the wave nature of matter, reshaping aspects of quantum physics.
