As part of our efforts to build a biblical theology of suffering, today we will examine this vital question: What is the source of suffering? Where does it originate? Implicit in this discussion is also the question: How does that impact our view of man and our view of God?

The answers to these vital questions about suffering are not comfortable, nor are they widely accepted — even within the broader evangelical church…

Our God calls us to mine truths, even (and perhaps most especially) when they are hard, from His Word and to meditate upon them in order to understand the true state of His world, to have a true picture of who He is, and to recognize truthfully our role as humans before Him. As we wrestle with the origin, nature, and purpose of suffering, let’s look at it through God’s perfect lens, His Word, and seek to apply that precious Word rightly to suffering.
