This video introduces the concepts of porosity and permeability and explains how these properties control both the amount of fluid that can be stored in rocks or sediment and how easily fluids travel through them. We use bicycle pump models to visualize the pore space and connectedness of different rocks. Finally, we introduce the terms reservoir and aquifer, and give examples of materials that may make good groundwater aquifers, oil and gas reservoirs, or storage reservoirs.
