After a violent storm, a small town is suddenly engulfed by a thick, mysterious mist. David Drayton (played by Thomas Jane) takes his son Billy to the supermarket for supplies, but soon, they realize that something terrifying lurks within the fog—monstrous creatures beyond human comprehension.

Trapped inside the supermarket, the survivors face threats not only from the deadly creatures outside but also from the growing hysteria within. As fear and paranoia spread, factions emerge among the survivors, with Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden), a religious fanatic, manipulating people into believing that human sacrifices might be the only way to survive.

With supplies dwindling and tensions rising, David and a small group decide to venture into the mist in search of safety, but what awaits them outside is far worse than they ever imagined…
