Shadow Springs Vineyard is located in Hamptonville and the one things I love is the drive there is in Amish Country. That in itself should tell you a little about how serene the area where Shadow Springs rests.

Each visit to Shadow Springs is always a pleasant one. The drive, the views, the beautiful tasting room, the wines of course and the owners...

The owners were teachers who decided to plant roots back home and we are glad they did. At my first tasting I was amused by the writing instrument handed to me, it was a crayon. Jamey, the owner, said that is the teacher in her but it also adds a level of fun when writing on the tasting sheet.

On this visit I enjoyed 12 wines, Chardonnay (Steel & Oaked), Viognier, Cabernet Fanc & Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Meritate, Crimson Sunset, Shadow Mist, L'Amour Doux, Shortcake & Dark Shadow. NOW LET ME TELL YOU... if you like/love dark chocolate you must try their Dark Shadow. Jamey mixed the Dark Shadow and her Shortcake together for the Chocolate Covered Strawberry experience. I hear that will be a wine of its own soon and personally I think it should be. Like with all wineries/vineyards their wine menus will change and that is good, except when they change your favorite, but it gives you a reason to visit them again and again not only to stock up on the ones you love but to experience their new ones.

Now getting back on track, one thing different at Shadow Springs is that they offer an "Adopt a Vine" program. You can adopt a vine of your choice, you will receive a picture of your vine, and you will get two bottles of wine made from that varietal. It's a perfect gift for those who you just don't know what to buy.

My suggestion to you before visiting Shadow Springs you need to stop at the Shiloh Amish Store less than a mile away and have a sandwich made and bring that along with you. After your tasting, purchase a glass or bottle and relax out on their patio, or sun porch and enjoy. There is no better way to spend your day.
