In this video I will show you countdown numbers in after effects, countdown numbers tutorial.

Creating countdown numbers in Adobe After Effects is a great way to enhance your video intros, transitions, or announcements. Here's a step-by-step tutorial on how to create a simple countdown (e.g., from 10 to 0) using only native tools in After Effects - no plugins required.

What You'll Need:
• Adobe After Effects (any recent version)
• Basic understanding of keyframing and layers

Method 1: Countdown Using Text Layer & Expressions
Step 1: Create a New Composition
• Open After Effects
• Go to Composition → New Composition
• Set duration to at least the length of your countdown (e.g., 10 seconds)
• Click OK

Step 2: Add a Text Layer
• Go to Layer → New → Text
• Type any number (e.g., "10")
• Align it to the center using the Align panel

Step 3: Add an Expression to Animate the Countdown
Alt+Click (Option+Click on Mac) the Stopwatch next to the Source Text property in the Text layer.

Paste this expression:
// Set starting number and countdown duration
start = 10;
end = 0;
duration = 10; // in seconds

count = Math.floor(start - (time / duration) * (start - end));
count = Math.max(count, end);
count.toString();

This expression linearly interpolates from 10 to 0 over 10 seconds.
Step 4: Customize Your Countdown
• Font: Choose a bold font for a cinematic effect (e.g., Bebas Neue, Impact)
• Size: Scale it up via Transform → Scale
• Color: Use the Character panel to change text color
• Background: Add a solid layer (Layer → New → Solid) if needed

Optional Enhancements:
Add Scale or Opacity Animation.
Animate the Scale or Opacity to make the countdown pop with each number.
For example:
• Add a Scale keyframe at each second (when the number changes)
• Use Ease In/Out to smooth the animation
• You can also add motion blur for extra punch

Add Sound Effects:
• Import a ticking sound or beep
• Sync the sound to each number change for dramatic effect

Render Your Countdown:
• Go to File → Export → Add to Render Queue
• Choose your settings and export your video
