Luo-Han (Chinese: 罗汉), or Arhat, is a Buddhist term to describe a person who has attained a certain level of enlightenment. In the Indian Sanskrit liturgical language, the direct translation of Luohan is “one who is worthy’. Today there are countless forms, techniques, and even Kung Fu schools that are named Luohan. The most notable however, are the routines still practiced at the Shaolin Temple today. One of the most common and traditional Luohan forms very often seen is called Xiao Luohan Quan. This is the routine that is covered in this level.
Although there are many interpretations of Xiao Luohan Quan, a very similar standard can be seen between the traditional Kung Fu masters of today. The form in this level derived from Shifu Hu Zheng Sheng in Deng Feng, Henan Province China. Shifu Sal Redner has studied in China for more than a decade learning Luohan Quan and other traditional Chinese Martial Arts.
