It was only when Cillian Murphy won the Oscar earlier in the year that I heard how to pronounce Cillian (Pron: Killian), but this aside, I saw there was this trailer and put it aside to focus on other trailers, but again I digress. I thought the trailer for this film was Cillian’s next movie after Oppenheimer. I believe he is currently filming Peaky Blinders - the motion picture. I guess the sequel to 28 Days Later must be in the can. I must stop this digression.

In short then seeing as Cillian was the Best Actor Academy Award recipient this year I felt I had to react to this trailer of his next movie. The atmosphere is like other similar films like Angela’s Ashes and one or two others, including the Gerard Depardieu starrer, Germinal. The performances are underplayed to extreme effect. It does seem like a newsworthy story, as horrific as it may seem, not that the exact premise of the film is revealed here. It’s about the performances. Many critics have given this 4 stars (out of five). So it’s not necessarily escapism but art in its rawest form. One of the Executive Producers was Ben Afflect and one of the Producers: Matt Damon.

It’s not the sort of genre that I watch but if the buzz is good on release I might watch it. It has at least set me up to watch Oppenheimer finally.

It is Michelle Fairley who was the matriach of the Stark family in GoT.
