What is Buddhism? What do Buddhists believe? What are the basic teachings of the Buddha? One important Mahayana teaching is the Six Paramitas.
This doctrine teaches us the six kinds of practices a bodhisattva should follow to attain enlightenment. The Six Perfections are:

1. Donation / Generosity
2. Keeping the Precepts / Morality
3. Forbearance / Endurance
4. Effort / Diligence
5. Meditation / Concentration
6. Wisdom

A bodhisattva is a person who, unlike the sravaka and pratyekabuddha, wishes not only to extinguish his own illusions but to save others as well. Therefore the Six Perfections has the salvation of all living beings as its aim.
