At the recent CT HorrorFest, I had the chance to meet two special guests from the 1983 film Cujo: Dee Wallace and Danny Pintauro, who played mother and son, respectively. You might also recognize Danny from Who's the Boss.

I was excited to meet Danny because he's a crafty pumpkin carver and has actually been a Zombie Pumpkins member for nearly 20 years. When we met, he teased me for not having a Cujo pumpkin for him to autograph. I promised him that if he ever came back to the area, I’d be ready next time.

Driving home that night, I thought… it's a two-day convention. Why wait? I stayed up late to design a brand new Cujo pattern, carved it into a foam pumpkin early the next morning, and headed back to the con. Danny was delighted, and introduced me and my pumpkin to his movie mom, Dee Wallace.

Dee is horror royalty. She’s starred (often as the mother) in E.T., Critters, The Howling, and The Frighteners, just to name a few. She was incredibly sweet, warm, and totally game to pose with my pumpkin carving. I kindly asked her not to beat the dog pumpkin with a bat like she did in the film.

Just before their Q&A panel, we placed the Cujo pumpkin at the front of the room for a fun cameo appearance. Danny even handed out copies of the pattern to fans at the end.

It's always an honor to share my designs with the actors who brought these characters to life. This time felt extra personal. And now this rabid Saint Bernard pattern is unleashed for all of you. Cujo can stand guard on your porch this Halloween in pumpkin form.
