The moat of the Tower of London was adorned with 10,000 torches on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018 to commemorate the end of the First World War.

The torches will stay lit until November 11, Armistice Day, and volunteers will light individual torches each day. Many of the volunteers have a family connection to the war.

Gen. Nicolas Houghton, constable of the Tower of London, stressed that it was important that the historic site makes its contribution "to allow the public an act of collective remembrance."
