On Tuesday, GitHub Copilot for Azure added public preview support for Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) plugins. The AKS plugins (or skills) for GitHub Copilot for Azure (@azure) extension enable users to perform various tasks related to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) directly from the GitHub Copilot Chat view. These skills include creating an AKS cluster, deploying a manifest to an AKS cluster, and generating Kubectl commands. For example, you could create an AKS cluster using this prompt in the GitHub Copilot Chat view: "[@azure] can you help me create a Kubernetes cluster". You could deploy a manifest file to an AKS cluster by saying: "[@azure] help me deploy my manifest file." Or, you could generate a Kubectl command for your AKS cluster with something like: "[@azure] list all services for my AKS cluster".

Also last week, the AKS team announced the general availability of parallel image pulls by default. There are two types of container image pulls: serialized and parallel. By default, AKS versions earlier than 1.31 use serialized image pulls. Starting with AKS version 1.31 preview, AKS defaults to parallel image pulls. Generally, serialized image pulls are less performant than parallel pulls, especially when dealing with large or numerous container images. This update helps to enhance overall system efficiency.
