The Turkish structural steel fabricator, Tekfen Construction Ceyhan, continues to update their facility with FICEP’s innovative technology. This all started in 1993 with the installation of numerous FICEP CNC fabrication lines to fabricate plates and structural steel.

Two of the most recent investments included the combination of the thermal cutting Kronos in combination with the Gemini for drilling and thermal cutting. Both the Gemini and the Kronos share the same gantry rails and cutting table. This powerful combination can process plates up to 30 meters (98 feet) in length. In addition to processing long plates it generates the expansive productive capability to drill, mill and scribe on the Gemini and then use simultaneously the Kronos to cut the nested parts from the stock plate.

In the structural steel arena, Tekfen Construction Ceyhan has invested in FICEP’s “Intelligent Steel Fabrication” to maximize productivity. This fully automatic system enables a material handler to load stock length structural steel sections and scan the bar-coded production list. From this action all the material handling functions, the routing of the sections, the entry of the required CNC programs for the different systems and the operation of the lines are performed automatically. The amount of labor required is drastically reduced and number of operators are eliminated or replaced by an attendant function.

The CNC processes that have been incorporated into the “Intelligent Steel Fabrication” system starts with a high-performance sawing system designed specifically for structural steel. Once the stock material is cut to finished part lengths they are conveyed to the FICEP Valiant drilling line with sub-axis spindle positioning. The Valiant generates the required drilling, scribing and milling. The sub-axis spindle positioning feature enables offset holes, scribing and milling to be generated in all surfaces simultaneously.
