Eimear O'Sullivan, who heads up Lidl's sustainability team, takes us through how it will work.

Reverse vending machines like the one used here are being installed at shops all over the country.

Smaller shops taking part in the scheme may not have a machine but will take back your containers over the counter.

Your voucher can be used against the price of a purchase or exchanged for cash.

Any plastics drinks bottle or can from 150ml to 3 litres in size with the Re-turn logo and special barcode on it can be returned in any participating shop.

Just remember - don't squash the container - the machine needs to read the barcode.
